Before your first appointment, you will be asked to fill out a health history questionnaire about your horse. Oregon law requires veterinary referral prior to your first appointment. If your horse is current on their annual exam, contact your vet for approval. If it has been more than one year since your horse's last exam, they will need an updated wellness exam prior to their massage appointment.
At your appointment, we will we will go over your horse's history, environment, training and fitness level, as well as your goals together and any challenges or concerns you may have.
After our discussion, your horse will receive a physical exam. This information will help us make sure your horse is ready for a massage. Any issues that arise may require veterinary attention.
A dynamic evaluation will follow, allowing us to watch your horse in their natural way of moving. Generally a short lunge at all gaits in both directions will suffice.
With all this information, we will develop a comprehensive massage plan for your horse and begin the massage.
Once you become an established client, your appointment will look a bit different. Each session will always begin with a brief physical exam to ensure your horse is fit for a massage. I will also ask you for any updates on your horse's health, as well as if you have had any challenges since your last session. We will then move right into the massage.
If at any time your horse is being treated by your veterinarian for anything other than routine maintenance, you will need to get written approval from the treating veterinarian before you schedule your next appointment.
